Following the groundbreaking emergence of tools like ChatGPT, it’s easy to fall into the trap of perceiving artificial intelligence as a monolithic entity, primarily a sophisticated program adept at navigating the complexities of human language. However, this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

AI, in its splendid diversity and ceaseless evolution, is more akin to a grand symphony, masterfully orchestrating transformative changes across an array of sectors. From the intricate world of healthcare and the hallowed halls of education to the vibrant realms of entertainment and the bustling corridors of finance, AI’s transformative touch is omnipresent. It weaves a tapestry of innovation and efficiency, leaving an indelible mark on every field it graces.

Of course, a single article could scarcely do justice to the expansive and ever-evolving landscape of AI’s application fields. Yet, it offers us a fleeting glimpse into the wondrous expanse of possibilities that AI brings to our world, showcasing its ability to not just innovate, but to revolutionize the way we live, work, and interact. Let’s then try to understand together the ‘what’ of AI!

As a starter, it is important to understand that although most AI are based on the same principal (e.g. deep learning), they each exploit this basis differently. For example, ChatGPT and Dall-E both rely on Neural Network, yet, one transform text into text, the other text into images. As there is different type of basis for AI, there is different type of exploitation of those basis.

Healthcare: A Lifesaving Symphony

In the realm of healthcare, AI has become a pivotal player. IBM’s Watson, developed in 2011, is a prime example. This cognitive computing system has been trained to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions, providing doctors with a powerful tool to enhance patient care. Watson’s ability to analyze vast amounts of medical data in mere seconds enables it to suggest treatment options, helping to save lives and improve outcomes.

Education: Nurturing Minds with Precision

The education sector has also embraced AI with open arms. Carnegie Learning, a company founded in 1998, has developed intelligent tutoring systems that provide personalized learning experiences for students. These systems adapt to each student’s individual needs, ensuring that they receive the right level of challenge and support to thrive academically.

Entertainment: Crafting Worlds of Wonder

In the world of entertainment, AI has become a masterful storyteller and creator. NVIDIA’s GauGAN, introduced in 2019, is an AI-powered tool that transforms simple sketches into stunning, photorealistic landscapes, opening up new possibilities for artists and designers. This tool demonstrates AI’s ability to understand and interpret human creativity, turning rudimentary drawings into works of art.
